Celebrating Lions' Legacy at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Disney's lions have long since been one of the most iconic inhabitants of Kilimanjaro Safaris, with many visitors delighting when they see them. For the last ten years, Dakari and Kamari, two lions have featured on the tallest point of the savanna.
With heartfelt emotions, Disney Parks Blog, recently shared the news of Dakari and Kamari's retirement to a conservation have in Florida. Their new home has also been accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The decision to move the pair has been done with their health, welfare and happiness in mind. They are deserving of the best retirement. Along with delighting guests on Kilimanjaro Safaris they also helped inspire the big screen. In 2019 the live action remake of The Lion King was released and this pair helped inspire the characters we see in the film. Crews visited and recorded the lions to give the best and most realistic film possible. Footage of Dakari and Kamari was woven together with 3D models to create the lions we see in the film.
Shortly after Dakari and Kamari settle into their new home, Animal Kingdom will welcome a group of young lions. The new pride will spend their first few weeks backstage getting used to their new habitat although they already know each other as they are litter mates!
We will update you with more information on the new additions when we get it.
We want to wish Dakari and Kamari a very fond farewell and we hope they like their new home.
