Hurricane Milton - Disney & Airport Operational Updates - Tuesday October 8th

As of writing this at 3:47pm EST Hurricane Milton is projected to hit the Central Florida area on Wednesday evening as a possible category 2 hurricane (possibility of changes may occur closer to time of landfall).



Airport Closures


Tampa International Airport (TPA): Will suspend all commercial and cargo operations beginning at 9am Tuesday and will remain closed to the public until they can assess any damage after the storm.


St. Pete/Clearwater Airport (PIE): Will close at 12:30pm on Tuesday and remain closed through Thursday.


Orlando International Airport (MCO): Commercial and private flight operations to cease on Wednesday morning


 

Walt Disney World Weather Update


Update October 8th 3:46pm: Disney has just released updated weather and operational information about their theme park closures. At this time parks and Disney Springs will be closing tomorrow, Wednesday October 9th.


 Closing at 1pm Wednesday: Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom


Closing at 2pm Wednesday: EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, and Disney Springs


Closed all day Wednesday: Typhoon Lagoon, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf and Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf


Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is cancelled on Oct. 10. Tickets for the event will be refunded.


Walt Disney World Transportation ceasing operating Wednesday, Oct. 9 after parks and Disney Springs close for the evening.


Limited Minnie Van and Mears taxi service will be available to Walt Disney World Resort Guests.


Disney will not enforce cancellation policies until further notice for dining and other experiences. Those with pre-paid bookable experiences will be automatically refunded within 7 to 10 business days.



Oct 7th 6:37pm: Disney will temporarily close starting 11am on Wednesday. See details below: 


  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground (including dining and recreation locations), the Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will temporarily close beginning at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Oct. 9.


  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are likely to remain closed until Sunday, Oct. 13.


  • The Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will likely reopen on Friday, Oct. 11.



Walt Disney World Resort Hotels Cancellation Policy


Cancellation fees for guests with check-in dates of October 6th through October 12th will be waived due to weather. If you are not calling to cancel or change your reservation, please hold off until after the storm has passed so that Disney may assist those affected by Milton.


Disney Vacation Club members are currently allowing owners to cancel or reschedule their hotel stay this week with no penalty including adjustments to the banking and borrowing status of those points.


Update: 10/8 1:08pm: Due to potential weather impacts to guest travel plans, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of Tuesday, 10/8 – Monday, 10/14
